Our Story

Founded in 2017 by veteran sommeliers Matt Stamp and Ryan Stetins and located in the heart of Downtown Napa, the restaurant and neighboring wine shop serve as a hub for our community, for visitors to the valley, and for everyone who loves great food with wine. The word “Compline” refers to the completion of the working day—a time best enjoyed in Napa Valley with a glass of wine.

From March 25 through April 26, Compline Restaurant welcomes back Chef Diego Isunza Kahlo, great-great nephew of artist Frida Kahlo. Chef Kahlo brings remarkable culinary creativity and a vibrant range of flavors, drawing on Mexican, Mediterranean, and Californian traditions.

During his residency, we are also presenting a gallery exhibition of original works by his mother, Cristina Kahlo. The exhibit, I Grew Up in the Shadows of Trees, will be on view throughout the restaurant—an intimate visual counterpart to the dining experience. An internationally recognized artist and photographer, Cristina Kahlo has graciously loaned her work for the duration of Diego’s residency.

In 2026, Compline Restaurant returns to its roots, with a renewed focus on wine with food. Chef Sean Massey is elevating the Compline Restaurant menu and kicking off our evolution with a three-week residency in our kitchen. Chef Sean’s riff on our classic Californian vibes launches Feb 11.

We’re thrilled to see his Japanese-influenced, French-trained, Midwestern-born cooking enhance the style we’ve been perfecting for over eight years right here in downtown Napa. Experience Chef Sean Massey's Kämplin through March 15.
